Master of Science in Occupational Ergonomics and Management

The Master of Science in Occupational Ergonomics and Management at Carver University prepares professionals to transform workplace environments through advanced, evidence-based ergonomic practices. The program integrates biomechanics, cognitive ergonomics, environmental design, organizational management, and occupational health to enhance human performance, safety, and well-being in contemporary work settings.

Students will develop applied competencies in workplace assessment methodologies, ergonomic intervention design, analysis of psychosocial and cognitive factors, and evaluation of environmental and technological conditions that impact work systems. The curriculum emphasizes research, prevention, accessibility, human-centered design, and the ethical and legal responsibilities that guide professional decision-making.

Learning goals

  1. Analyze socio-occupational environments and person–work interactions using ergonomic, biomechanical, cognitive, and organizational methodologies to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
  2. Design and implement human-centered ergonomic solutions that enhance performance, accessibility, safety, and well-being across diverse work systems and technological environments.
  3. Apply statistical, economic, and evaluative methods to measure the effectiveness, cost-efficiency, and sustainability of ergonomic interventions within organizational settings.
  4. Integrate environmental, psychosocial, and technological factors—including workplace culture, cognitive workload, and physical environmental conditions—into comprehensive workplace design strategies aligned with legal and ethical standards.
  5. Lead interdisciplinary projects and organizational change processes by applying evidence-based practices, regulatory compliance, and strategic management approaches in occupational ergonomics. 

Professional perspectives

Ergonomic Assessment and Design Competencies
Demonstrates mastery of ergonomic assessment methodologies—including anthropometry, occupational biomechanics, physical workload analysis, and workplace auditing—to identify risks and design human-centered interventions. Designs workstations, hand tools, and workplace environments that optimize performance, safety, and inclusion.

Cognitive, Social, and Environmental Ergonomics Competencies
Analyzes the cognitive, psychosocial, and environmental factors that influence workplace performance and well-being. Evaluates human reliability, error, user interfaces, stress, burnout, and thermal, acoustic, and lighting conditions within work environments. Designs strategies that promote inclusive, ethical, and healthy workplaces.

Project Management and Leadership Competencies
Leads comprehensive ergonomic projects that integrate biomechanical, cognitive, social, and organizational analysis. Applies statistical and economic methods to measure the effectiveness of interventions and support strategic decision-making. Manages organizational change processes with ethical responsibility and a focus on sustainable outcomes.

    The program includes a $150.00 application fee and a $150.00 technology fee. These admission-related fees are waived for students who choose the full upfront payment option.
    The total cost of the program is US $11,700.00. This amount does not include enrollment tuition fees or other applicable administrative charges. Academic materials and access to the virtual library are included as part of the program. Applicants may also apply for the George Washington Carver Grant, which provides up to 75% coverage of tuition costs, subject to the application and approval process.

    All applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

    1. Submit a copy of an updated resume.

    2. Submit three (3) letters of recommendation.

    3. Submit an official transcript or original foreign evaluation showing successful completion of a US equivalent bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent recognition.

    4. Submission of a valid government-issued photo identification.
