Master of Science in Mental Health

The Master of Science in Mental Health at Carver University is designed to prepare professionals with advanced knowledge and practical competencies in mental health care, psychological well-being, and evidence-based intervention strategies. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates psychology, neuroscience, public health, counseling, and ethical practice, the program equips students to address contemporary mental health challenges across diverse populations and professional settings.

Students will develop competencies in assessment, prevention, intervention, and mental health promotion while exploring the social, cultural, and organizational factors that influence psychological well-being. Learning goals

  1. Analyze mental health systems, psychosocial factors, and interdisciplinary frameworks from an academic and research-based perspective.
  2. Examine the fundamental concepts and theoretical models of psychiatry without engaging in clinical training or diagnostic practice.
  3. Evaluate the influence of sociocultural, organizational, and environmental determinants on the mental well-being of diverse populations.
  4. Apply research methodologies to the study of mental health challenges, policies, and community or organizational initiatives.
  5. Understand psychobiological processes and foundational neuroscience principles in order to interpret their relevance to mental health research and interdisciplinary analysis.
  6. Develop evidence-based recommendations for mental health promotion, prevention strategies, and the design of policies and programs in non-clinical settings.

Professional perspectives

Academic and Research Competencies
Demonstrates mastery of conceptual frameworks, epidemiological models, and interdisciplinary approaches for the analysis of mental health. Designs and conducts non-clinical research projects using qualitative and quantitative methodologies, generating meaningful knowledge for understanding the factors that influence mental well-being.


Policy Analysis and Prevention Competencies
Critically evaluates mental health systems, public policies, and the social determinants that shape population well-being. Develops evidence-based recommendations for mental health promotion, the design of preventive programs, and the strengthening of community and organizational initiatives.

Neuroscience and Interdisciplinary Understanding Competencies
Understands psychobiological processes and cognitive neuroscience principles relevant to contemporary mental health research. Interprets neuroscientific findings and integrates them into interdisciplinary analyses that enrich the understanding of mental well-being without involving clinical practice.

    The program includes a $150.00 application fee and a $150.00 technology fee. These admission-related fees are waived for students who choose the full upfront payment option.
    The total cost of the program is US $11,700.00. This amount does not include enrollment tuition fees or other applicable administrative charges. Academic materials and access to the virtual library are included as part of the program. Applicants may also apply for the George Washington Carver Grant, which provides up to 75% coverage of tuition costs, subject to the application and approval process.

    All applicants must meet the following admission requirements:

    1. Submit a copy of an updated resume.

    2. Submit three (3) letters of recommendation.

    3. Submit an official transcript or original foreign evaluation showing successful completion of a US equivalent bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent recognition.

    4. Submission of a valid government-issued photo identification.
