Voces Carver | Entrevista con Cristóbal de Ugarte:
De la sala de clases online a la gestión operacional
What program did you study at Carver University, and when did you graduate?
I completed the Executive MBA (Master of Business Administration) program at Carver University and graduated in April 2025.
Why did you decide to study at Carver University?
I chose Carver University because I wanted a flexible, modern, and internationally recognized academic alternative that would allow me to deepen my knowledge in business management and leadership without interrupting my professional responsibilities. Carver offered a high-level online methodology, an international perspective, and the possibility to study in my native language (Spanish), which perfectly aligned with my professional development goals.
How would you describe the experience of studying online?
My online learning experience was very positive and enriching. It allowed me to balance work and studies while connecting with professors and classmates from different Latin American countries. The platform is intuitive, the content is up to date, and the learning process remains interactive and human.
The live classes were dynamic and engaging, and when I couldn’t attend, I appreciated being able to rewatch the sessions as many times as needed.
Was there a professor or course that significantly influenced your academic journey? Why?
Yes. The courses on Business Leadership and Advanced Project Management were especially impactful. They strengthened my managerial skills, decision-making abilities, and strategic planning capacity. I apply the knowledge gained from these subjects directly in my current role as a zonal manager at CBB.
How has what you learned at Carver University helped you in your current professional career?
The MBA strengthened my strategic vision and my ability to lead teams, which is essential in the concrete and construction industry.
I have applied tools related to financial analysis, leadership, planning, and change management directly in my work, generating concrete improvements in the performance of the branches I oversee.
What is your current professional role?
I currently work as a Plant Manager at CBB ReadyMix, overseeing operations in the Temuco and Villarrica branches in the La Araucanía region of Chile. CBB is part of the international group Carmeuse, a global leader in the production of lime, minerals, and cement, which reinforces its position as a key player in the construction materials industry in Chile.
In this role, I lead the comprehensive management of ready-mix concrete plants, supervising production processes, quality control, logistics, and safety. I also coordinate technical teams and manage relationships with strategic clients. My focus is on operational efficiency, sustainability, and service excellence.
What achievements or notable projects have you accomplished since graduation?
Since completing the MBA, I have led projects focused on operational optimization, quality control improvements, the strengthening of technical-commercial leadership, and several initiatives related to sustainability within the branches under my responsibility.
Would you recommend Carver University to others? What would you tell them?
Yes, I would highly recommend it. I would tell prospective students that Carver University is an excellent choice for professionals seeking to advance without pausing their work, validate previous studies, and access an academic model that is coherent, up-to-date, flexible, and accessible. It is a learning experience that enhances both professional and personal development, with the added value of international recognition and the ability to study in Spanish.
