In the most recent edition of Carver GlobalTalks by GAN, we were joined by Alejandra Pérez, a kinesiologist with a degree from Universidad Mayor, a Master’s in Health Management from Universidad del Desarrollo, and a Master’s in Government Management from Universidad Autónoma de Chile.
The academic, who also serves as director of the kinesiology program, the Master’s in Strategic Management of Healthcare Organizations, and the Research Group on Health, Functionality, and Physical Activity at the same university, presented the lecture “Leadership that transforms healthcare.”
During her presentation, she delved into the functioning of organizations, exploring the evolution of management models and theories, and their application in healthcare administration. She also highlighted the importance of access to information as a key tool for taking action and promoting continuous improvement.
Along these lines, she addressed the complexity of healthcare organizations and the challenges they face due to external uncertainty and internal fragility—marked by system overload and the emotional toll on staff, which often leads to burnout. In light of this, she emphasized that “we must move forward and view digital transformation and the use of AI as fundamental pillars within the concept of adaptability.”
Finally, she underscored the role of leaders as agents of change—capable of fostering adaptive leadership that strengthens organizations’ responsiveness—supported by strategic planning, effective communication, and motivation.
